Welcome!

The International Conference on Machine Learning and Data Mining will be held at the Morningside Center of Mathematics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China, from June 16 to June 19, 2008. This international conference, co-sponsored by the National Science Foundation, USA, and Chinese Academy of Sciences, will provide a much-needed venue for interactions among international researchers, particularly those in the US and the pacific region. The conference will be preceded by a one-day workshop, June 15. We anticipate active intellectual exchanges among researchers, and hope these exchanges may identify common research and educational topics and develop a specific area for further collaboration.

The theme of this conference is on machine learning and data mining. The intended topics include predication, classification and regression, clustering and unsupervised learning, mining bioinformatics data, semisupervised learning and active learning, pattern recognition, fraud detection, among others.

The conference will be open to all participants. The registration fee will be $150, which includes 4 day's conference lunches, one banquet dinner and a half day trip to the Badaling section of the Great Wall, North Beijing. The conference will be preceded by one-day of workshop related to the theme, followed by research presentations. Inquiries should be directed to statconf@stat.umn.edu.

A limited number of travel awards are available for the US pre and postdoctoral students to present at the conference. Applications must be made by April 30, 2008, including an extended abstract (up to 3 pages) of the poster and a letter from the student's academic mentor verifying trainee status. Students should be the first author.
