As you should know, the perferred way to connect to our departmental servers and workstations is through a secure SSH connection. ttssh is a freely distributed addon to Teraterm Pro, which is a freely distributed telnet client for Windows-based PC's. Below are instructions for installing and configuring it on your systems. You can download it from this directory.
---------------------------------------------------------
1. unzip ttermp23.zip into a temporary directory (you can use WinZip).
2. Run setup.exe from the above directory and follow the installation proceedure. Make note of the install to directory.
3. unzip ttssh151.zip into the install to directory that you installed Teraterm into (not the temporary unzip directory). This is by default c:\windows\program files\ttermpro\
4. Create a desktop and/or Start Menu link to ttssh.exe (in the above directory).
5. Double-click on the link you just made to start ttssh.
6. put in your hostname (stat.umn.edu), select SSH, click OK. Then give it your username and password.
7. Once connected, go under the Setup menu and select TCP/IP. If you add your hostname (stat.umn.edu) on this screen you won't have to type it in each time.
8. Then, go under the Setup menu again and select SSH Authentication. Add your username.
9. Finally, to save your settings, go under the Setup menu, then Save Setup. Save it overtop of the original Teraterm.ini
