As you should know, the preferred way to connect to our departmental servers and workstations is through a secure SSH connection. MacSSH is a freely distributed modified version of BetterTelnet with SSH2 support.
1. Transfer file MacSSH-PPC.sit to your machine.
2. Depending on the version of your system and StafItExpander, StafItExpander will unzip the file into the MacSSH folder. If not, use StafItExpander to unzip it manually.
3. Double click MacSSH PC to start the application.
4. Before attempting to establish a connection select "Edit Favorites" from the "Favorites" menu to "Change" default settings. Click the "Security" tab to select SSH2 protocol.
5. Also, before attempting to establish a connection, you can optionally initialize the SSH keys. For that select the "SSH2" tab. Setting up keys will add an additional level of security for your connections but will require to key in the 'key' or 'paraphrase' as well as your password each time that you log in. For more information about keys see the QuickStart file.
6. Once the defaults are set, select "Open Connection" form the file menu. Key in the address of the system as 'stat.umn.edu'
7. Once your session is established you can keep the the 'connection set' by selecting "Save Set..." form the "File" menu.
8. For information on licenses and use see the COPING and README files.
