Homework: Homework is an important part of this course. The best
(and maybe the only) way to truly learn statistics is by doing lots and lots
of homework problems. This course is unrelentingly cumulative. That
is, the simple concepts we will cover in the beginning will have a direct
bearing on the more sophisticated ideas that we will encounter later on.
Please do not be fooled into thinking that the class will proceed at the same
pace throughout the term. Keeping up with the homework is of paramount
importance. I encourage students to work together on homework assignments.
However, do not simply copy someone else's work. The work you turn in
must be your own.
Each week I will post a homework assignment on the home
work web page. There will be approximately one assignment due each week,
usually on Friday and will be collected during class. Late
homework will not be accepted. In addition, you
should expect to do roughly 50 pages of reading per week.
