STAT 5021
Statistical Analysis

Text

David S. Moore and George P. McCabe 'Introduction to the Practice of Statistics' 3rd edition. Bring the book to class with you.

Materials

A 3.5 inch diskette. A calculator. A 'statistical' pocket calculator able to do univariate statistics, and single-predictor regressions is advisable. Students with access to an IBM or compatible PC may consider buying their own copy of the package STATISTIX, which will be used for the lab exercises.

Syllabus

The course will follow the text quite closely, and complete most of it. In addition, there will be handouts expanding on some statistical material and explaining the computational issues.

Handouts

Spare copies of all handouts can be found in the TA office hour room.

Lab Sessions

In your weekly lab session, you will use the Statistix program package. Use of this computer lab (and certain other PC labs that have software) both during and outside scheduled lab hours is free. There is a charge for printing in the lab. If you want to print anything in the lab you will have to purchase a 'printing card'.

Assessment

There will be two in-term tests, weekly homeworks and a final exam. All tests are open book/open notes; bring calculator and homeworks.

The final grade will be a composite of:
Homeworks 45% of the total weight
Midterms 30% of the total weight
Final 25% of the total weight
