Letter Grades

DISCLAIMER: Ignore this section (if you can). It is not official. This course has no official letter grades for exams. At the end, number grades for homework, midterms, and the final are added, and letter grades for the course are based on that one number (total score for all work).

That having been said, you may take as a rough guide for this exam only that 85-100 is an A (including A-), 65-84 is a B (including B+ and B-), and 44-64 is a C (including C+ and C-).

This entails no promise to use the same percentage ranges on the second midterm or on the final.

Repeating what the disclaimer says in other words, we average numbers not letters. Don't come to me saying that you had an A on the homework and both midterms and a B on the final, so how could you possibly get a B for the course. If the midterms were both 90, the homework was 90, and the final was 80, your total grade is

0.25 * 90 + 0.25 * 90 + 0.20 * 90 + 0.30 * 80 = 87
which is in the B range (assuming we use the same ranges throughout, which as stated above we do not promise to do, and already have not done, since 90 and above was an A on the first exam but 85 and above on this exam).
