Abstract
Data produced by auditing of financial accounts give rise to interesting
statistical issues; many of these are not satisfactorily handled by standard
statistical procedure, and special methods are required, but largely not yet
developed. The talk has two main aims: (i) to introduce the context of audit
data, and some of the associated statistical problems; (ii) to present a
specific instance of the above framework, and discuss a proposed solution.
This applied problem originated in connection with the clearance of accounts
of national agencies of European countries carried out by the European Commission.
