Graduate students are admitted to begin their studies in a specific semester. In some cases, students may wish to defer their admission to a later date. To do so, the student must petition the Director of Graduate Studies for Statistics requesting that his or her admission be deferred. If the request is approved, admission will be deferred for up to one year. However, it does cost a little money. (What is really happening with a deferred admission is that you are reapplying for the new admission date, but you get to reuse the forms and documentation that you have already sent for your current admission date, and the "yes" decision on admission is already made.)
Here are the procedures. First, you have to petition the DGS to approve the deferral by writing a letter to the DGS requesting the deferral. If the DGS approves the deferral, then you must send a second letter to the Graduate School stating that you have been admitted to the Graduate Program in Statistics and wish to defer until the agreed upon date.
The next step is getting back in; you will need to send materials to both the Graduate School and the Graduate Program in Statistics. You should send these in by January 1. The Graduate School will require:
- A letter from you stating that you have deferred your admission.
- The application processing fee for the new entry date.
- Official copies of any updated transcripts.
- Updated contact information, including any new addresses or email.
The Graduate Program in Statistics will require (again, by January 1):
- A letter from you stating that you have deferred your admission.
- Photocopies of any updated transcripts.
- Updated contact information, including any new addresses or email.
